It is hard to believe the Leadership Class of 2009 has completed more than 50 percent of the program. With June graduation in sight, the class continues to experience many aspects of the Valley during its program days.
Evangelical Community Hospital was the host of the Health & Human Services Program Day in December, providing the class with a variety of information such as health care reimbursement, mental health and mental retardation, growing up in foster care and childhood obesity. The hospital treated the class to a comprehensive tour and a deliciously catered lunch.
In January, the class found itself as a guest of SUN Area Career & Technology Center, located in New Berlin. During this Education Program Day, LSV attendees learned about Autism and Spectrum Disorder, current education issues, the function of school boards, and universities and economic development. A lunch – fit for a king – and catered by the school’s culinary students was one of the day’s highlights.
This month, the class spent its Economic Development Program Day at Wood-Mode in Kreamer. One of the state’s leading cabinet makers, Wood-Mode provided the class with a tour of its factory as well as the site to hold the program day. A lot of information was shared including Small Business Development Center services, Susquehanna Valley work force and economic development alphabet soup. Class members also continued to share their individual credos with one another.
If anyone has ideas for our program days or is interested in presenting a relevant topic, please give us a call. We would love to get you involved.
Alumni Appeal
We have had a very successful alumni appeal campaign to date. Alumni contributions now total $1,335.00 and there is still time to contribute. Remember all donations are tax deductible and your contribution will help others experience the same Leadership opportunity you have had. The class with the highest rate of donation participation will be recognized at this year’s graduation. Will it be your class?
Alumni Committee
There will be a LSV Alumni Social Committee meeting on Friday, March 13 at 3:30 p.m. at the Cherry Alley Café in Lewisburg. Interested alumni are welcome to attend.
Interested alumni should call Patty Bennett at 570-988-5359 or e-mail her at pbennett@dailyitem.com.
Guy Temple Award Nominations
The LSV graduation will be held this year on June 18, 2009, at the Best Western Country Cupboard at 6 p.m. Please mark your calendars and save the date. Look for an invitation in late May. We hope to see alumni from each class in attendance.
As part of that ceremony, the LSV Board honors an alumnus with the Guy Temple Distinguished Leadership Alumni Award. This award honors a Leadership Susquehanna Valley alumnus who has demonstrated regional and community leadership. LSV is currently accepting nominations for this award. Nominees will be judged on their service, leadership and achievements. In addition to being a Leadership Susquehanna Valley alumnus who has successfully completed the program’s coursework requirements, a nominee should have the following:
Service – Actively serve one or more organizations that have a positive impact on the Susquehanna Valley and its communities;
Leadership – Provide leadership or other talents to an organization that contribute directly to the ability of that organization to fulfill its mission;
Achievement– Have been responsible, in demonstrable ways, for significant accomplishments in these organizations through his/her leadership and service.
If you know a LSV alumnus that you feel deserves this recognition, feel free to nominate that person. Applications are due May 15, 2009. To obtain the application please click here.

Class of 2010 Recruiment
We'd like to ask for your help in recruiting the 2010 class, so here is a quick refresher you can pass along to potential class members or their organizations. As always, we would appreciate knowing about the referral so we can do a personal touch follow-up.
The Board of Directors of Leadership Susquehanna Valley is now accepting applications for its 2010 class.
Leadership Susquehanna Valley (LSV) is a nonprofit organization designed to provide creative leadership training opportunities through education, networking and collaborations with experts in the areas of Public Issues, Communications/Public Relations, Health and Human Services, Education, Economic Development, Law and Judiciary, Agriculture and Environment, and Local Government.
Since the first class in 1995, LSV has graduated more than 350 people that are in the Valley’s communities making a difference. Employees with tenure and those new to a company have found numerous benefits in this program. It has assisted them in becoming more informed and aware of the opportunities and concerns of the Valley in which they live and/or work.
The class will kick-off with an orientation in August and a retreat in September. The class then meets October through May for eight sessions. Each session is a full business day focusing on one of the issues facing the Greater Susquehanna Valley community. The class concludes with a graduation celebration in June.
