Leadership Susquehanna Valley E-Newsletter

August 2009 Edition

A Word from the Executive Director

Jenny Daddario

On Thursday, Aug. 20, the Leadership Susquehanna Valley Class of 2010 officially met each other and the Board of Directors for the first time at the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce’s business center in Shamokin Dam.

Each participant was greeted by the LSV staff and whisked away to have a professional photograph taken for the class directory.  A special thank you to Keystone Forging of Northumberland for sponsoring this year’s directory.

Ryan Unger, president, welcomed the class, sharing the rich history of LSV and letting the participants know that with their participation, LSV would officially be graduating more then 400 individuals since its inception 15 years ago.

Dr. Robert Witten, president and CEO of Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU), and strong supporter of the LSV program, shared with the class the many reasons his organization sees such a value in the program.  Dr. Witten also shared comments from CSIU graduates who gained value by being in the class, citing reasons such as generating more community awareness, networking with other peers and expanding leadership skills.

Bryan Allinson, 2009 class representative, shared with the group his expectations prior to going through the program and some of the positive changes since graduating, including joining a school board after he attended the Education Program Day at Sun Area Technical Institute in January.

The next event, the overnight retreat, is scheduled for Sept. 17 and 18 at Mountainview Bible Camp in Snydertown.  Thank you to PPL Electric Utilities for sponsoring the event.

Class Spots Still Available

As we near the beginning of the LSV Program Year, the Recruitment Committee is pleased to report the following 24 Valley leaders who have committed to participating in the Class of 2010.  As you see these individuals at other business or social functions, please congratulate them on their commitment to themselves and to the community we all live in and enjoy.

We begin the 2010 program year with 24 class members.  Despite a challenging economy, we commend all of the businesses that committed to sponsoring members of their organizations as class members.  It is our promise that the program experience will be a rewarding one for all involved.

There are still a few spots remaining in the Class of 2010, so it’s not too late to submit an application for consideration.  If you know of anyone who would make a great addition to the class, please encourage them to get involved.

We thank you, sincerely, for your efforts in sharing the LSV message with business colleagues and professional acquaintances.
