Small Business Development Center Support Letter
June 17, 2009
On behalf of the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce, I am writing to express my concern over budget cuts that would affect the viability of the Bucknell University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Lewisburg, Pa.
The Bucknell University SBDC is a great asset to the Greater Susquehanna Valley. Its programs and staff have helped create and retain jobs, assisted with business start-ups and retention, and provided small business owners with a safety net – one that should not be pulled away.
If the SBDC were to lose its funding, then it would not be able to offer all of the beneficial programs and services that it provides – many of them free or low-cost.
Whenever the Chamber receives an inquiry regarding small businesses, it immediately directs inquirers to the SBDC because it knows that they will find the answer there.
The SBDC is a resource that we cannot afford to lose. Over 70 percent of our members are small businesses and they need a reliable resource center like the SBDC in order to grow and survive in today’s economy.
Sincerely,
Charlie Ross
